Gavalohori is a fair-sized village in lovely hilly and green countryside, close to the coast and some very fine beaches. The village has a very long history of continuous occupation as testified by the many attractive roman and venetian remains scattered throughout it. The village boasts a school and a museum, a variety of shops and a few cafes and restaurants. The surrounding countryside offers endless possibilities for rewarding walks. The regional administrative capital, Vamos, is close by and offers a 24 hour health centre, shops and many other services. The beautiful cities of Chania and Rethymno, and Chania international airport may all be reached by less than 40 minutes drive.
