The area of Akrotiri:
The Akrotiri Peninsula features some of the most beautiful and clean sandy beaches of Chania offering water sports activities, including well-known Stavros beach where Zorbas the Greek was filmed, Kalathas, Tersanas and Marathi. Kalathas beach is a beautiful sandy beach lined with pine trees in the south and a small islet at swimming distance and features cafes and traditional tavernas. Tersanas is another fine sandy beach with shallow waters suitable for children.
A variety of wild birds and turtles find haven in this peaceful area which is so diverse, offering endless possiblilities to the visitor, from birdwatching, horseriding, hiking or simply relaxing and enjoying the scenery.  There are also several churches and historically significant monasteries in the area such as the impressive Agia Triada and Moni Gouvernetou built in the 16th century, a visit to which is highly recommended.

Marathi Chania:
Marathi is a small cove about 14 km east of Chania town. This cove has crystal clear waters and is protected from strong winds.

Marathi is an organized beach particularly popular among the locals. Its shallow water is ideal for families and kids. Along the beach, you will find nice taverns that serve fresh fish and some hotels. The small port offers facilities for fishing and excursions.
