The area of Κato Stalos:

The coastal settlement of Kato Stalos is situated just 8 kms west of Chania city. The area features a long stretch of a beautiful sandy beach which has been awarded the EU Blue Flag, it is very clean and well organised. Kato Stalos features a variety of traditional taverns, restaurants, cafes and beach bars, as well as hotels and rental apartments. It also has several small supermarkets and a variety of shops. The traditional village of Pano Stalos is situated about 1km inland from Kato Stalos and sits about 150m higher in the green hills.  

The rest of the area's popular beaches of Agioi Apostoloi, Kalamaki, Chrysi Akti or Agia Marina are at easy access. There is a frequent bus service linking Kato Stalos to the city of Chania and to the popular tourist villages and resorts further to the west, such as Platanias with its vibrant night life, bars and cafes. 

The area west of Chania (Nea Kydonia):

Nea Kydonia extends west from Chania city and features a long coastline of beautiful beaches stretching all the way to the peninsula of Rodopou. It is a lively area with high tourism activity in the summer featuring many tourist resort areas such as the villages of Platanias and Agia Marina with their abundance of hotels, restaurants, cafes, clubs and shops. A lush countryside awaits the visitor only slightly inland from the coast, featuring mainly citrus orchards and a large number of traditional villages which can be visited on daytrips. Galatas village is known for its history since it is the field of many battles fought and features the Battle Monument of Crete and a museum in its central square. At Alikianos village, one can visit the church of Ai Kyr Giannis and in Meskla the fountains and the Byzantine church of Christ.
