Protecting the environment and saving you money !!
Euroland-Crete is dedicated to designing and building homes that are more energy efficient and sustainable and strives to utilizing more environmentally friendly materials and resources. Caring about the environment, and hence contributing towards saving our planet, is of significant importance to us as a construction company. We aim to meet high standards of environmental friendliness by reducing construction impact on the environment and creating a longer-lasting, energy-efficient home. This has an additional very important benefit for our home buyers, as it means significantly reduced energy consumption and therefore saving money!
Currently, Euroland-Crete offers the following as standard features and procedures towards protecting the environment and conserving water and energy:
Developments designed and constructed in harmony with their location and local environment. To protect the natural environment that surrounds a new site, we survey each area intensively. We then design the development’s layout to suit the location, keeping its natural features intact.
Pipes made of Polypropylene (PPR) are used in plumbing and water supply systems, which are durable, corrosion resistant and non-toxic, meaning they do not cause chemical changes to the properties of water and soil.
By means of active energy management, we seek to reduce energy consumption and thereby contribute to climate protection. Therefore:
* We follow designs in the construction of our homes that maximise the use of sun and natural lighting throughout the day, which abounds in Crete year round, and provide excellent cross-ventilation.
* All columns, external cavity walls, floors and roofs are exceptionally well insulated, to maximise passive heating and cooling.
* Windows are double glazed, again to minimize cool/heat loss.
* Underfloor electric heating for a more efficient use of energy.
* Thermostatic heating temperature controls are installed in every room.
* Installation of solar panels, which collect and convert solar energy into heat, warming up the hot water cylinder, providing hot water throughout the day.
* Fan assisted ovens, recognized as more energy efficient than conventional ovens.
* Installation of air-conditioning systems that use environmentally friendly refrigerants namely R-410-A and R-407-C. These 'green' refrigerants have a far less chlorine content, which means the air-conditioning systems we supply and install will not harm the ozone in the way their predecessors did. In addition, they are more energy efficient, with lower running costs.
* We supply as standard in all of our homes fridge/freezers which are 'A' rated in energy efficiency
* We promote the use of a photovoltaic system, and provide the fittings for future installation. Photovoltaic systems produce electric energy from the sun which is stored in accumulators (batteries) and provide us with electricity. A photovoltaic system doesn’t need fuels, it doesn’t emit filth and has a warranty of 20 to 30 years. The operation is soundless and the maintenance expenses are minimal to zero. The needs that a photovoltaic system can cover are unlimited. The cost of the system depends on the power that we install, which in turn depends on our energy needs. To further reduce costs, a wind generator can be used in conjunction, mostly at winter time. Also, as reserve in the system, a diesel generator can be used, with the possibility of turning on and off automatically whenever we want to increase our consumption.
Installation of dual flush toilets, to save on water consumption.
We are constantly reviewing and enhancing our procedures and practices towards environmental protection and energy efficiency. It makes a lot of sense buying a more energy efficient house, contributing to the well being of the environment and saving money in the process.
